YOUR LEGAL RIGHT- HOW TO TAKE IT FROM THE DEVIL?
The core idea is that
while God's authority is absolute, Satan, as the "ruler of this
world,"
can sometimes gain what
is referred to as a "legal right" or a "foothold" in
a person's life.
This is not a right given
by God, but rather an opportunity or permission granted by the
person themselves, either
knowingly or unknowingly. The good news is that for a believer
in Christ, this
"right" can be broken.
The Foundation of Your Legal Right in Christ
The primary
legal right you have is not one you take from the devil, but one that was
already purchased for you by Jesus Christ. The Bible is clear that
through His death and resurrection, Jesus has stripped the devil of all
authority over those who belong to Him
Satan has
power, but he cannot use his power against us unless we give him the
right. Take the story of Job into consideration Job 1. He
could not touch Job’s life; he is unable to touch our lives unless God grants
him that permission. He might be the god of this world BUT Almighty God I
Superior and reign over all affairs of mankind. Psalm 24 the earth is the
Lord’s as a believer we must always be aware of his devices because he will
look for a place to take legal access and have authority in our lives.
When we sin, our disobedience gives Satan the right to attack our
lives.
Note that: The strength of Satan is our
ignorance.
When we have the right knowledge of who Satan is, we will not react to him, and we will not fall to his devices. We will know who we are fighting against, and who we are fighting for. James 4:7. resist the devil and he will flee from thee!!!
Let’s look at Ephesians
4:27 not to “give
place to the devil.”
· Ephesians
4 refers to three ways that “ground” in the soul can be given to the devil:
· Immorality (They
“… have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with
greediness” verse 19.)
· Greed (“Let
him that stole steal no more …” verse 28.)
· Bitterness (“Let
all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put
away from you, with all malice” verse 31.)
The word place refers to an area of jurisdiction [ power to
make legal decisions and judgments]. In warfare, opposing sides gain
jurisdictional area whenever the ground is surrendered.
As
Christian we resist temptations to sin as in James 4: 7. When and if we do
sin, it is important that we repent as soon as the Holy Spirit convicts us and
then reclaim the ground that we have given Satan the
“legal right” to occupy. The steps involved in taking background are
as follows:
Repent
of your sin.
Repentance
is recognizing that you sin, turning to the Lord, submitting to His truth, and taking
responsibility to be obedient to His holy standards.
Always
check if you have given the enemy any legal right in your life. With any sin
that is not confessed, any disobedience or ignorance leads to open doors or
portals to the enemy.
When
we have submitted to God’s justice only then can we plead for His mercy? “The
Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy”
(Psalm 147:11).
Heartfelt repentance always removes any legal right of
the enemy [Satan]. Check your heart, the things you say, your thoughts
and your actions. When you repent Jesus washes away your sins and removes any
authority the enemy has over you.
Confess fully to God.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I
John 1:9). When making confession we should name our sins with the terms God
uses, such as fornication or lust etc. Violating the Law of God brought about
the need for atonement through the death of His Son, who took the punishment
for our sins on the cross.
Claim
the blood of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin because Jesus recovered the
authority that Adam gave the devil.
When
Jesus came, he came without a sinful nature. Because Jesus had no sin, He had
authority to cast out demons and was able to rebuke and stop them. No one else
was able to do this because they were born with Adam’s fallen nature.
There
was a battle of two kingdoms. Jesus was a manifestation of dominion and the
demonstration of the kingdom of God.
We
cannot cast out the enemy without taking dominion. When we cast out demons, we are taking dominion
over spiritual territories.
Every
time we cast out spirits and demons, we are taking that dominion and are
demonstrating the kingdom of God.
“which
He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His
right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion,
and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to
come.22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all
things to the church,” – Ephesians 1:20-22
Christ
died on the cross in our place, we must accept His shed blood for the remission
of our sins. “… because without shedding of blood is no remission” (Hebrews
9:22).
Colossians 2:14–15 expound that at before the
crucifixion at the cross Satan had the “handwriting of ordinances,” which
listed all the sins by which he had authority to condemn us.
However, Christ took it from Satan and
blotted it out with His own blood.
Jesus
took away the enemy’s right and gave us the right to have dominion and power to
overcome Satan.
In any war, we must know our rights. As
believers of Jesus Christ, we have the power and authority.
“Inasmuch
then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power
of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death
were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” – Hebrews 2:14-15
This
means that Jesus Christ took away our legal rights from Satan when he died!
Only those who accept Him as Lord and Saviour and live by His words and does
His will rights had been taken from Satan!
Once we accept the blood of Christ, Satan loses his claim to the
ground of our souls. We then need to ask God to take the authority over that
ground.
“Looking
unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set
before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right
hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2
When
you truly repent and refocus on Jesus, you will remove any legal right the
enemy has in your life.
“And having disarmed the powers and
authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the
cross.” – Colossians 2:15
We
must be:
“Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking
whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same
sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” – 1 Peter 5:8-9
The
status of the devil:
·
He
is defeated.
We
must declare the defeat of Satan all the time.
·
He
is dethroned.
·
He
is destroyed.
“He
who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this
purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the
devil.” – 1 John 3:8
The
enemy can’t do anything without the consent of men.
How
can the enemy regain rights in our lives?
· When
we disobey. Living a life of disobedience.
· By
certain things we declare.
· What
we say comes to pass. If we continuously declare we are sick, the enemy
has the right to make you sick. Satan is always ready to enforce the words we
say that give him legal right. Don’t ever give any place for him to come in.
Do not underestimate him, but do not magnify and overestimate him. Any teaching
that magnifies the work of the devil we must stay away from. We must always and
only magnify the work of Jesus.
See what Isiah 14: 15-17 has to say
about Satan!!!...you
shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee
shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying is this the man that
made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms: that made the earth as
wilderness, and the destroy of the cities thereof... The world will marvel at him and wonder if is this little thing wreak
so much havoc...know your opponent he is
defeated, dethroned and will be destroyed!!!
We
must not pray for God to run away the devil from us. We have authority to stand
firm and rebuke him in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Remember you are
given authority to trample serpents and scorpions, and nothing will harm you.
But you must have faith and believe that the words spoken will not return void!
The provided text explains that Jesus has decisively defeated the devil, disarming him and canceling any "legal debt" for believers (Colossians 2:13-15).
As new creations in Christ, believers are no longer under
the devil's dominion and possess authority over the enemy (2 Corinthians 5:17;
Luke 10:19).
However, the devil
can still gain a "foothold" or influence in a Christian's life
through open doors like unconfessed sin (1 John 1:9), unrenounced
generational patterns (Exodus 20:5), unforgiveness (Ephesians
4:26-27), or past occult involvement.
To "take back" ground from the devil, believers must enforce Jesus' victory by:
Repenting and confessing sins to close open doors (1 John 1:9).
Renouncing the devil's claims verbally.
Using the authority of Jesus' Name to command the enemy to leave (Mark 16:17).
Standing on the Word of God as a spiritual weapon (Ephesians 6:17).
Submitting to God and resisting the devil, causing him to flee (James 4:7).
